About Multi-Site Connectivity

Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) is an Ethernet multipoint-to-multipoint service running on an IP network provided with a tunnel mechanism (usually MPLS) IP network. It allows for the interconnection of several LANs even when the LANs are geographically separated. VPLS uses MPLS to create a reliable, scalable and operationally effective solution. In the case of companies, the VPLS uses an Ethernet connection to provide a simple and cost-effective multipoint service with agreements on quality of service for different types of traffic. The advantage over Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions level-2 MPLS or L2TPv3, which only provide services tunnels Layer 2 point-to-point solutions, is that VPLS provides multipoint connectivity services (any point to any point).
